Christian Academy of Guatemala (C.A.G.) traces its origin to September 1974 when five missionary families opened the school in a rented facility in the part of Guatemala City called Zone 11 as an educational service to evangelical missionary families. The original purpose for the school's establishment continues in our present existence and mission, "Providing a Biblically based, quality English education, to prepare lives for Christian service.”

In the first year, there were over twenty students in grades 1-8, with one monitor and two full-time teachers.  One of the teachers also served as the principal.  After the earthquake in February of 1976, C.A.G. grew dramatically as missionary families came to help with short and long-term relief and reconstruction efforts.  More classrooms, office facilities, and a chapel were constructed at this time on the rented, Zone 11 property.  C.A.G. also gained students and staff from Huehue Academy in the fall of 1987 when CAM International closed their missionary children’s school.

In 1987, due to the inadequacy of the Zone 11 facility, it was decided to purchase land and build a new facility.  In January 1989, nearly five acres of land was purchased in San Cristóbal on the outskirts of Guatemala City.

Although classes remained on calle Mariscal, students and parents continue to anticipate the opening of the new school facilities in San Cristobal in Fall of 1991. Mr. Glenn Ager came on staff to coordinate fundraising and other aspects of the construction. Mr. and Mrs. Bill Thomas came down from California to oversee on-site construction. Everyone joined in the effort through mailings, prayer, and personal offerings. Many also help with on-site construction by clearing the property.

Since then, the administration building, elementary building, middle/high school building, two homes, gymnasium, workshop, and developed grounds have been constructed debt-free through visiting work team and one-time construction fees.
